Yumi Liu - Week 16: Arts and Crafts

I love arts and crafts– painting, knitting, sewing, origami you get what I mean.

If I was giving someone a gift that meant at least one thing they received was made by me. I have made: cards, jars of stars, and crocheting stuffed animals.

I used to always make gifts no matter what, but I stopped after high school. Partially the reason for why I stopped was because I lost motivation to make them, but the real reason is because I got lazy. So recently I wanted to try to do arts and crafts again instead of being on my phone all the time. As we all know, Mother’s day was recently as well, so I decided to make pipe cleaner flowers.

In all honesty, my flowers were kind of ugly but, hey, it's the thought that counts. My mom was really happy with the flowers, but I knew my younger self would have done so much better than me.
“According to a Nasa study, adults lose 96% of their creativity just by growing up.”

I realized I have lost so much creativity compared to when I was younger, and it's scary knowing one day I could even forget about it. Anyhow, I am going to try to make gifts again and try to retain my creativity. However, I think everyone should learn the art and crafts for the purpose of gift giving because it really is the thought that matters. Personally, from the top of my head, I can remember the content of what my friends write to me for the birthday card, more than what they gave me.

(origami stars really easy to make)

  1. I am quite scared after reading your blog, for I consider my self to be an artistic individual (I consider math to be my medium.) Its a morbid feeling that a small part of you is always dying, the soul of your inner child is abrogated daily. It is a reminder of our finite existence, yet fatalist thinking is not what we our made for. We our creatures of gregarious intent, and our momentary existence can not be spent in shallow thoughts. The world is a beautiful place, we won't exist in it again, so use it to enjoy what you can, be it the beauty of paper stars or partial derivates.
